Google is probably getting kickbacks from the plans the phone companies sell along with the N1I my self don't plan on paying for any data services. I'm perfectly happy to use wi-fi hot-spots for this purpose. Its definitely cheaper for me to buy the unlocked phone, though I wouldn't want everyone to follow my suit, killing the 3g industry for wi-fi which lacks the physical and economic viability of 3g if it expands much past where its at now

Why does Google need these phone companies as friends in the first place? I went to go check it out at the T-Mobile site and found out that I apparently missed adding the unlimited texting option for $10 to the Even More plan that I quoted. So instead of $89.99 - it's $99.99 for the unlimited triple play. This becomes a no brainer for the unlocked phone. Subtracting the $480 in monthly savings over two years effectively reduces the phone price from $529 to $49 - way less than the $179 locked phone.Still, it's effectively locked to T-Mobile. But to save $480 that's acceptable.

KPOM – Thanks for the comment!
